Putting pieces together in the land of Gaudi
A mosaic of sensibilities are on the program for this trip, focused on young international creators.
Created in 2012, the Mixtur Festival won the 2017 “City of Barcelona Prize,” which rewards initiatives in creation, research, and cultural production. Among the beautiful bricks and high windows of this old textile factory turned music factory, we find an original mixture of ingredients that adds up to more than just a festival. Concerts yes, but also workshops, round-table discussions, sound installations and more. The artistic direction is shared jointly by composers Oliver Rappoport and Oriol Saladrigues, the latter having been awarded the 2018 “Composition Prize” by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. Saladrigues was also on the program for “Ibère-Contemporain,” a concert given by TM+ at Radio France in 2016.
It is at his invitation that this year the Ensemble will once again undertake an expedition beyond borders, remembering that expression is not dependent on a facility with the language, so much as on the artistic engagement of the participants. Here, young composers selected from around the world, will bring their projects into the studio to work on their scores with the musicians in residence before taking them under the lights of the concert stage.
The idea is not for TM+ to merely go there and give a concert, but to bring some ingredients with them and work with others on site to build tomorrow’s musical landscape together.
