Creation

Several generations of musicians and non-musicians, written and improvised sequences, children's voices, a trio of professional virtuosos...

Introducing Jungles, TM+’s new collective practice project, directed by Léo Margue, and supported by composer Timothée Quost:

“I’m not sure that improvisation is synonymous with absolute freedom… It’s by drawing the child’s attention to certain musical parameters, by making them listen to materials, look at soundscapes, that we develop an interesting relationship to improvisation. One should not explain to the child, but make him play with his senses, in an approach that is more human than strictly musical.

The voice is the most natural instrument, the one we have in common, it allows a very direct and instinctive access to music. I have quite precise inner sound images of what I hear in Jungles. The voices are also cries, rales, a rather animal relationship to sound. I really like to multiply instruments, to prepare them in order to modify their sound, with the idea of sculpting a collective sound mass, always in a primitive relationship to sound. And if I chose as soloists a trombone, a double bass and percussions, it is because they are instruments that have a long history with jazz and improvisation. I imagine them as wild animals, thrown like furies through this mass of sound that supports and exalts them… “.
